Frequently asked questions

The short answers. For longer explainers, check the how-to-play guide or the news page.

Is Brain Rot IRL really free?

Yes. The game is free to play with no in-app purchases or paywalls. We're supported by display ads on content pages (not inside the game itself).

Do I need to download an app?

No. Brain Rot IRL runs entirely in your phone's web browser. Open brainrotirl.com on your phone — Safari, Chrome, or any modern browser — and start playing.

Do I need an account?

Guest mode works without signing in, but your dex only saves on that device. Sign in with Google to sync your collection, level, and quests across devices.

How does location work?

We use your phone's GPS to spawn Rotmons around your real position. Location is only read while the game tab is open. We never store or share location data, and we don't track movement when the tab is closed.

Is the camera always on?

Only during a catch encounter. The map screen doesn't use your camera.

Can my kid play?

We require an age gate. Players under 13 need parental acknowledgement. See our Play Safe page for full parental guidance and safety tips.

Why didn't a Rotmon spawn near me?

Spawns require minimum 20m distance from your position and are influenced by biome. Walking a few blocks usually triggers fresh spawns. Standing still in your kitchen will not.

How do Limited Edition Rotmons work?

They spawn at roughly 1-in-100 odds anywhere, anytime. No event, no schedule. Walking more increases your roll count.

What's the rarest Rotmon?

Cosmic 6-7 and Apex Skibidi are the rarest catchable Limited Editions. Most players go months between sightings.

Can I battle other players?

Battles are in active development. Friends list and leaderboards are live; PvP battles are rolling out incrementally.

Does it work offline?

No. The map, spawns, and dex sync require an internet connection.

Why do my Rotmons keep fleeing?

Catch chance scales with three things: rarity (rarer flees more), throw accuracy (center hits land more), and Rizz Ball tier. Upgrade your balls as you level up.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Account Settings → Delete Account. This wipes your dex, profile, and any stored data within 30 days.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell personal data. Read the Privacy page for the full breakdown of what we collect and why.

Why are some Rotmons named after viral memes?

Brain Rot IRL is an original parody-inspired game. We reference viral meme energy without claiming affiliation with creators, studios, or rights holders. See the footer disclaimer.

Why did you rename some Rotmons?

We periodically audit the roster against viral canon. If a Rotmon's name doesn't match the actual meme term most players use, we fix it. Italian Brainrot creatures stay canonical.

How do I report a bug?

Use the in-game Report tool or email the address on the Contact page. We triage within 48 hours.

How do I suggest a new Rotmon?

Hit the Contact page with the meme reference and a one-line vibe pitch. We add 1-2 new creatures per week based on suggestions.

Which browsers are supported?

Mobile Safari (iOS 14+) and Chrome on Android. Desktop browsers work but the AR catching is best on a phone.

Why does the game drain my battery?

GPS and camera are battery-intensive. A small power bank turns a one-hour walk into an all-day session.
