Beginner's guide: your first week in Brain Rot IRL

Day-by-day plan to go from zero to a full Common dex and your first Rare within seven days of walking.

Day 1 — Set up and walk one block Open the game on your phone, allow location, and walk the nearest block. You'll see your first Sigma Tabby, Doge or Chill Guy within five minutes. Throw a Standard Rizz Ball, aim for the center, and catch your first Rotmon. Sign in with Google before you close the tab — guest progress only lives on that device.

Day 2 — Hit your first 10 The aim today is breadth. Walk a route you don't normally take. Every new GPS tile rolls fresh spawns, so a 20-minute walk to a different coffee shop is usually worth four or five new catches. Don't waste Great Rizz Balls on Commons yet.

Day 3 — Complete your first daily quest streak Open the quests panel and read all three. They'll usually be one walk quest (distance), one catch quest (count), and one collection quest (variety). Complete all three before midnight local time to bank your first streak day. Streak rewards compound — see the [spawn-rarity breakdown](/news/how-spawn-rarity-actually-works) for why this is the single highest-leverage habit.

Day 4 — Chase your first Rare By day four you should have around 20-30 Commons. Rares spawn at roughly 25% of all encounters, so you'll start banking them naturally. Watch for Mewing Kid, Stonks, Tralalero Tralala or Ballerina Cappuccina — they appear in different biomes, so vary your route.

Day 5 — Learn ball economy You unlock Great Rizz Balls around level 8. The unwritten rule: never use a Great on a Common, never use an Ultra on a Rare, and never use a Master on anything below Legendary. The game gives you enough balls to never run dry if you respect this curve.

Day 6 — First Legendary attempt Around 30-40 Rares deep you'll get your first Legendary encounter. These flee aggressively. Throw a Great or Ultra, center your throws, and accept that the first one usually escapes. That's normal — it's the price of admission to the next tier.

Day 7 — Look back Open your dex. You should have 30-50 Rotmons by now, your first Rare collection, and ideally one Legendary attempt under your belt. From here, the game opens up: biome experimentation, the [encyclopedia](/rotmons), and slow grinding toward your first Limited Edition.

What not to do in week one - Don't pace your kitchen — the algorithm requires fresh GPS tiles. - Don't grind for a Limited. It's a 1-in-1000 roll. You'll catch one when you catch one. - Don't skip the [Play Safe guide](/play-safe). The whole game depends on you not walking into traffic.

Where to go next Read the [FAQ](/faq) for the small stuff and the [encyclopedia](/rotmons) for everything spawnable. The [Italian Brainrot lore drop](/news/italian-brainrot-wave-lore) is essential context for the wave that defines the current meta.
